Diwali is the festival of Hindus and it is celebrated in October or November and it has various names across the country Deepavali, Dipavali, Dewali, Deepawali, or the Festival of Lights. The word Deepawali means the row of diva’s or the row of clay lamps from here Diwali gets its name. This year the festival of Diwali is on Saturday,  14 November. Diwali is a festival of lights and happiness people light candles and clay lamps outside their homes and they worship the Lord Ganesha for welfare and prosperity and Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and wisdom. In northern India, they celebrate the story of King Rama’s return to Ayodhya after he defeated Ravana by lighting rows of clay lamps. Southern India celebrates it as the day that Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura. In western India, the festival marks the day that Lord Vishnu, the Preserver (one of the main gods of the Hindu trinity) sent the demon King Bali to rule the nether world.
